When planning your social media strategy it is important to define a target audience. Many users of social media platforms just want to market to “the public” but this definition is far too broad and vague.

Every business has a multitude of potential audiences that can be reached through social media – the difficult part is identifying who you REALLY want to reach.

When starting to identify who your target audience is; research who you are trying to get your message out to and think if your social marketing will help you meet your objective – why target this particular group?

Reflect on other areas of the business and see if this particular group is identified by your businesses communication efforts this will help you understand if your target reach already knows your business and what may kick them in to life to respond to your messages.

Ask yourself what key points you want to make with your audience. Once these questions have been answered you should be able to define who you really want to target and the messages that you send out will go hand in hand to help you get the most out of your day to day messages and put you in a position that will enable you to adapt to change quickly and effectively.
