How much social media is right for your business?

With a large number of social media platforms available for marketing professionals – how do you know which one is right for your organisation?

Each social media platform will offer something different, it is up to you to consider the good and the bad and the strengths and weaknesses of each platform against your overall goals so that you can determine which social channels are right for your business.

Brainstorm your social media goals and objectives and think about how each platform can help you achieve your goals. Try to reach a target of 3-5 goals and objectives to get a bigger picture.

As you are considering the strengths and weaknesses for your objectives ask yourself the following:

-What tactic and content is needed to reach your objectives and target audience?

-What content are you able to implement?

-Can you sacrifice additional time needed for keeping up to date with changing social media tools and platforms?

Rank each metric on a scale of probability that will help you meet your goals. Take in to consideration how easy or difficult it may be for you and your team to create engaging content and your expertise in your field. Can you produce compelling videos? Are you a creative blogger or PR writer? Can you or someone in your team produce eye catching infographics and slideshare material? Does content creation need to be outsourced?

Planning and consideration is a vital part of the social media equation, understanding your overall goals, social platforms, content requirements and knowing your target audience will help you achieve your overall objectives.

It may take a bit of time initially but social media planning will soon become second nature and will seamlessly integrate within your marketing mix.
